Description
Lateral Firefighter Paramedic Opportunity
Eugene Springfield Fire has a proud tradition of professionalism, aggressive all-hazards response, and a strong commitment to training and crew readiness. In 2024, members from our 16 Stations responded to over 47,000 calls for service, including 260 structure fires and 700 vegetation fires. We are seeking experienced firefighter/paramedics who can bring proven skill, adaptability, and teamwork to our organization.
Lateral hires will participate in a condensed 5-week academy focused on orientation to our department before transitioning to line assignments in our integrated fire and EMS response system, which uses a tiered EMS model including BLS units, single-role paramedics, and dual-role firefighter/paramedics.
Firefighter/Paramedics are assigned to an Engine, Ladder, or Tower Company and work 48 hours per week on a 24 on/72 off D Shift rotation with a debit shift every 28 days. FF/P’s may also be assigned periodically to an ALS Ambulance (currently members work 1–1.5 shifts per month in this assignment, with the staffing plan moving to a full Single Role Ambulance model in 2026).
Opportunities for assignment to special teams are available in the fields of Water Rescue, Hazardous Materials, Technical Rescue, and Wildland. Additionally, Field Training Preceptor, rotational assignment positions in Fire & EMS Training and EMS Shift Supervision, and promotional opportunities to Fire Engineer and Fire Captain are also available for Firefighter/Paramedics.
